South Georgia Tech Lady Jets Suffer Two Losses in Florida Trip
URGENT UPDATE: The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets faced a tough weekend, dropping both games during their road trip in Florida. After falling to Eastern Florida State 80–64 on Friday, they suffered a narrow defeat to Daytona State 98–89 on Saturday, bringing their season record to 2–4.
In a high-pressure matchup against Eastern Florida, the Lady Jets struggled to overcome a halftime deficit of 42–35. Despite Taja Bennett’s impressive 23 points, the team could not regain control as Eastern Florida dominated the later quarters.
In a thrilling back-and-forth game against Daytona State, freshman Ja’Niya Broome put on a standout performance, scoring a remarkable 39 points and securing 8 rebounds. However, despite her efforts and Bennett’s addition of 10 points, the Lady Jets fell short, failing to erase a halftime gap of 55–41.
Looking ahead, the Lady Jets will regroup at home to host the Pete Arrington Classic, a three-day tournament from November 28-30 at the James S. Peters Gymnasium. The event features a competitive lineup, including nationally ranked teams such as No. 7 Walters State and No. 19 Florida Southwestern.
Coach Jason Carpenter expressed a commitment to using this weekend as a learning opportunity. “I’m disappointed in the results, but we’ll use this as an opportunity to grow,” Carpenter stated. “We are a young team with a lot of promise, but we also have a lot to learn.”
The Lady Jets aim to bounce back as they face Florida Southwestern on Friday at 8 p.m. and Motlow State on Saturday at 7 p.m. Fans can expect an exciting tournament filled with competitive matchups.
