UPDATE: In a stunning display of dominance, South Florida overwhelmed Charlotte with a commanding 54-26 victory during their American Athletic Conference opener on October 6, 2023. Quarterback Byrum Brown was the star, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for 162 yards, making this a night to remember for Bulls fans.

The Bulls wasted no time, taking a quick 7-0 lead just 59 seconds into the game, thanks to a 37-yard touchdown run by former 49er Cartevious Norton. The momentum continued as Brown connected with Jeremiah Koger for a 38-yard touchdown and Mudia Reuben for a 10-yard score, ending the first quarter with a stunning 23-0 advantage.

As the game progressed, South Florida maintained their intensity. A 43-yard field goal by Nico Gramatica and an 18-yard touchdown pass to Chas Nimrod propelled the Bulls to a comfortable 33-7 lead at halftime. Brown’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, completing 19 of 34 passes for 211 yards and adding a 1-yard touchdown throw to Evan Dangler.

In the fourth quarter, Brown capped off his incredible night with a 13-yard rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 47-18. Nykahi Davenport contributed with a 7-yard TD run just 43 seconds before the game concluded.

Despite the loss, Charlotte’s offense showed signs of life in the second half. Initially struggling, quarterback Grayson Loftis was replaced by Zach Wilcke, who managed to complete 14 of 18 passes for 150 yards. Wilcke threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to E. Jai Mason and a 16-yarder to Derrick Eley in a late push, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

This victory improves South Florida’s record to 4-1, with a promising start to their conference play at 1-0. As the Bulls celebrate this decisive win, fans are already looking ahead to their next challenge. The momentum is palpable, and the team aims to build on this performance in upcoming games.
