URGENT UPDATE: A man from South Euclid has been arrested for driving under the influence following a hit-and-run incident that occurred on December 3, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst. Police responded to a crash involving a GMC Acadia and are now investigating a driver who fled the scene.

The driver of the Acadia reported that the other driver, who was operating a white Toyota, exhibited signs of intoxication before abandoning the vehicle. Authorities swiftly located the suspect’s vehicle on Richmond Road in front of a CVS/Pharmacy, where the 47-year-old male was found to be intoxicated. He was subsequently arrested for OVI and hit-skip after refusing to take a breath test.

This alarming incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the area. With the holiday season approaching, incidents of driving under the influence could increase, prompting local law enforcement to ramp up patrols.

In a separate incident on December 6, police were notified of a theft at L.L. Bean located at 25225 Cedar Road. Loss prevention personnel reported that a 65-year-old man from Cleveland allegedly stole merchandise valued at $1,020. Investigations are ongoing, and no charges have been filed yet.

Additionally, police are investigating fraudulent activities linked to The Makeup Institute on Mayfield Road. A business representative reported two fraudulent checks totaling $931.64 were written using the company’s account. Authorities are currently looking into this case.

On December 2, a tense psychiatric situation unfolded on Kilbourne Drive. Emergency dispatchers received a call where a woman was heard urging her husband to “Put the gun down.” Police responded quickly and transported the 51-year-old man to MetroHealth Hospital for evaluation, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support in crisis situations.

A disturbance was also reported on Kenton Circle when a woman called police regarding her intoxicated husband, who refused assistance to attend a rehabilitation facility. Officers advised her to seek help again if needed, revealing the complexities of alcohol dependency issues.

Finally, three juveniles were apprehended at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Cedar Road on December 5 after attempting to steal merchandise. Fortunately, the boys, aged 14 and 16, were not charged as they had not successfully stolen anything.

As these incidents unfold, community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The local police department continues to prioritize public safety, especially during this critical time of year.
