Snow Hits Miami Valley: Limited Visibility, Slick Roads Urgent Update
UPDATE: As of 4:52 P.M. on January 6, 2024, snow is intensifying across the Miami Valley, creating hazardous conditions and prompting authorities to issue a Winter Weather Advisory lasting until 9 A.M. on Sunday. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as visibility decreases and icy roads prevail, making travel treacherous.
Officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) report significant snowfall impacting major routes, particularly Interstate 75 near Anna in Shelby County. ODOT spokesperson Matt Bruning emphasized, “We’re seeing very slow traffic in the area. Please give crews room to work.” Snowplows are actively treating roads, but the conditions remain challenging.
Local authorities, including the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, have stated that weather-related incidents are causing disruptions. They noted “limited visibility and very slick/icy roadways,” urging all motorists to proceed with extreme caution if travel is necessary.
A Level 1 Snow Emergency has been declared for Auglaize, Logan, and Mercer counties, indicating that road conditions are hazardous and that residents should avoid unnecessary travel. ODOT crews are working diligently to keep the roads clear, especially on State Route 707, where snowplows have been deployed.
