Small Plane Crashes into Lake in Coral Springs, Florida
URGENT UPDATE: A small plane has crashed into a lake behind a home in the Windsor Bay neighborhood of Coral Springs, Florida, at approximately 10:19 a.m. today. Emergency crews are currently on the scene, responding to reports of the incident.
Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft flying dangerously low before it went down, prompting immediate calls to emergency services. Mike Moser, deputy chief of Coral Springs Fire Rescue, confirmed the crash and indicated that the full extent of the situation is still developing. “Our team has conducted a preliminary dive, but no victims have been found,” Moser stated. The exact size of the plane and the number of passengers on board remain unknown.
As of noon, authorities have yet to locate the entire aircraft. Moser reassured the public, noting, “Fortunately, the plane did not strike any houses.” However, debris has spread across the neighborhood, and residents are urged to contact the Coral Springs Police Department if they find any pieces.
Initial aerial footage reveals a damaged fence behind a residence, alongside an oil slick on the lake’s surface. Creekside Drive has been closed from Northwest 66th Terrace to Northwest 53rd Drive, and residents are advised to avoid the area as emergency response continues.
Local resident Chris Howes, who lives on Creekside Drive, described hearing a “rapid acceleration” followed by a loud boom. “The noise just didn’t fit anything I’d heard before,” she remarked, indicating her initial thought was it might have been a car accident or landscaping mishap. Upon seeing the emergency responders and helicopters, she realized it was far more serious.
Neighbor Zane Smith also reported hearing a loud explosion, stating he and his business partner believed a bomb had detonated. “It felt like a shock wave reverberated through the home,” he said, highlighting the intense fear and confusion following the crash.
The National Weather Service Miami had forecast gusty winds for the area, predicting conditions would become “robust” later in the afternoon, possibly complicating recovery efforts.
