UPDATE: The San Jose Sharks suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Calgary Flames on November 2, 2025, snapping their four-game winning streak. Despite an outstanding performance from goalie Yaroslav Askarov, who made 34 saves, the Sharks’ lethargic play and poor communication led to their undoing.

Askarov was the standout player for the Sharks once again, marking his third consecutive game with stellar saves. However, his teammates struggled, managing just one shot in the third period and a mere six shots overall in the game’s final two periods. This performance came against a Flames team that has been the lowest-scoring in the NHL, averaging just 2.06 goals per game.

The game turned in the second period when miscommunication allowed Flames forward Blake Coleman to score his seventh goal of the season at the 5:46 mark. The Sharks were outshot 27-6 in the first two periods, with their offensive struggles proving fatal.

Adding to the Sharks’ woes, winger Jeff Skinner left the ice in the first period due to a right leg injury. Skinner, who had been a key player since signing with the team in July, appeared to collide awkwardly with the boards and was unable to put weight on his leg as he was assisted off the ice. The Sharks confirmed that he would not return for the rest of the game.

Earlier in the day, the Sharks announced the emergency recall of goalie Jakub Skarek from their AHL affiliate, the Barracuda, as Alex Nedeljkovic continues to address a personal matter. Nedeljkovic’s absence has left the Sharks in a challenging position, forcing Askarov to start for the third time in four games.

This defeat is a stark contrast to the Sharks’ recent form, which saw them extend their point streak to seven games before this loss. They are now looking ahead to their upcoming game against the Seattle Kraken, who also struggle with scoring, averaging 2.50 goals per game.

Fans and analysts alike are left wondering if the Sharks can regroup and build on their earlier successes. The team has not won five straight games since November 2019, and the pressure is on as they seek to reclaim their momentum and push for a playoff spot.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Sharks aim to bounce back in their next match.
