Senate Majority Leader John Thune supports ‘full disclosure’ of Epstein files

UPDATE: Senate Majority Leader John Thune has just announced his strong support for the full disclosure of government files related to notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking on Fox News on Wednesday, Thune emphasized the urgent need for transparency amid growing public outcry concerning the handling of Epstein-related documents by the Trump administration.

“We’re all interested in making sure that justice is served and that there is full disclosure and there’s transparency around this,” Thune stated during his interview with host Bret Baier. This call for clarity comes after the FBI and Justice Department completed a controversial review of Epstein’s case, which concluded with a memo indicating no further disclosures would be forthcoming.

The unsigned memo reported “no credible evidence” that Epstein blackmailed any prominent individuals or that investigations into uncharged third parties were warranted. It also included a link to surveillance footage from the Manhattan prison where Epstein died on August 10, 2019, suggesting no one entered his cell the night of his death.

Earlier on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump criticized those who continue to demand more information, labeling them as “weaklings” and dismissing the calls for transparency as a “scam” linked to previous Democratic administrations. Trump stated he no longer seeks the support of those questioning his administration’s handling of the Epstein matter.

Thune, however, maintained his stance on transparency, saying, “I think more is always better,” and acknowledged that perhaps there were “unrealistic expectations” about what could be released regarding the Epstein investigation.

In a parallel move, House Speaker Mike Johnson has also expressed support for transparency in the government’s Epstein probe. “It’s a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide,” Johnson told conservative podcast host Benny Johnson on Tuesday.

As public sentiment shifts, a recent Quinnipiac University poll reveals that just 17% of Americans approve of the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files, with a staggering 63% disapproving. Among Republican voters, 40% approve of the administration’s approach, while 36% express disapproval.

The urgency of full disclosure surrounding Epstein’s case continues to resonate, as calls for transparency grow louder amidst mounting public skepticism. As developments unfold, all eyes will be on the administration’s next steps regarding this highly sensitive issue.
