URGENT UPDATE: Grocery store hours in Rhode Island are changing as Christmas Eve approaches, with many stores closing earlier to allow employees to celebrate with their families. Shoppers looking for last-minute essentials should plan their trips for earlier in the day on December 24, 2025, to avoid disappointment.

Stop & Shop locations across Rhode Island will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, according to company representatives. Most Market Basket stores, including those in Warwick and Johnston, will close even earlier, at 5 p.m.

If you’re heading to Shaw’s, expect to find stores open until 6 p.m.. Meanwhile, ALDI will have modified hours, with locations in Providence, Warwick, Johnston, and Westerly closing at 4 p.m.

For those shopping at Price Rite, stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.. All Dave’s Fresh Marketplace locations will remain open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Customers planning to visit Whole Foods should note that the North Main Street and Waterman Street locations in Providence, along with the Cranston store, will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Trader Joe’s stores, including those in Providence and Warwick, will be available until 5 p.m.. Walmart locations, including those in Providence, Coventry, Newport, and Cranston, will remain open until 6 p.m.

Additionally, all Target stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Although there are no Costco warehouses in Rhode Island, the closest location in Sharon, Massachusetts, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lastly, all BJ’s Wholesale Club locations will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

As you prepare for the holiday festivities, make sure to check your local grocery store hours to ensure you’re not caught off guard. With many stores closing earlier than usual, it’s crucial to act quickly to secure your holiday supplies.
