A Journey Through Life

Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, California, Dan was raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where his athletic talent shone through in both baseball and basketball. Dan’s achievements on the field earned him the title of Homecoming King. Following high school, he pursued further education at El Camino College before transferring to San Diego State University, where he was recruited to play volleyball.

Dan’s service to his country as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps marked a significant chapter in his life. After a brief stint in the aerospace industry, he discovered his passion for real estate, ultimately building a successful business in the South Bay. His reputation as a knowledgeable and honorable realtor earned him widespread respect, particularly for his dedication to mentoring young realtors in ethical business practices.

A Life Built on Love and Community

In 1980, Dan married his soulmate, Cetha Walkington, in a ceremony at Neighborhood Church. The couple nurtured a life filled with family and community, raising two children, Sten and Kirstin. Dan was also a devoted father-in-law to Katrin and a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Known for his kind nature and clever sense of humor, Dan brought joy to those around him through wordplay and quick wit. His playful spirit resonated with everyone he met, often leaving them with a smile. Throughout his life, he cherished the ocean, enjoying surfing, fishing, and sailing, activities that reflected his easygoing personality.

Dan was an active member of American Martyrs Church for over 40 years, maintaining a strong connection to the community that had embraced him. He is now reunited with Cetha, who passed away previously, leaving behind a family that will continue to honor his memory.

A funeral Mass and celebration of life for Dan Ericson will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. The family has organized a paddle out at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, welcoming all who wish to join in celebrating his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, a cause that reflects Dan’s values of community support and compassion.
