UPDATE: The Pitt Community College (PCC) Health Sciences Division is set to host a critical career information fair on October 22, aimed at high school, private, and homeschool students, as well as local community members. This event promises to offer a hands-on introduction to health care careers and is sponsored by ECU Health, Physicians East, and Eastern Radiology.

Starting at 9 a.m. and running throughout the day, attendees will explore PCC’s state-of-the-art health sciences facilities through engaging simulations. “The PCC Health Sciences Career Fair provides high school students an early, hands-on introduction to health care careers — igniting their ambition, setting them on a path to success and strengthening our community’s local workforce,” stated Kamilah Williams, Dean of PCC’s Health Sciences Division.

This marks the fourth consecutive year PCC has organized this fair, emphasizing its commitment to preparing students for successful careers in health care. “It is such a unique opportunity for the community and our high school students to explore the wide range of health care professions that PCC prepares students for,” added Tami Flynn, co-chair of the event.

The fair will unfold in the William E. Fulford and Herman Simon buildings on PCC’s main campus. Public and private high school students will attend in the morning, while homeschool students and the general public can join anytime during the day, with a special two-hour window from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. reserved specifically for them.

With a growing shortage of health care professionals, highlighted by Kendall Commodore, co-chair of the fair, this event is more vital than ever. “The PCC Health Sciences Career Fair is about showing the community the many career paths available right here at the college,” Commodore stated.

Attendees will have direct access to representatives from all 23 health sciences programs, who will discuss curricula, career options, and admission requirements. Participants can engage in hands-on activities, apply for PCC admission, and learn about vital support services such as financial aid and counseling.

There is no cost to attend the fair, and pre-registration is not necessary. Parking is free and available in front of the Fulford Building, making it easy for everyone to participate.

This event is crucial for fostering local talent and addressing the urgent workforce needs in health care. The community is encouraged to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to connect with future career paths in health care.

In addition to the career fair, the Better Skills, Better Jobs Fair will take place on October 26 at the Greenville Convention Center, further supporting workforce development in Pitt County. This event will welcome over 100 local businesses and educational institutions, providing a platform for jobseekers and students to explore training options and employment opportunities.

Don’t miss out on these significant events designed to uplift and empower the community. Share this news and encourage friends and family to join the career fairs and explore the future of health care and workforce development in our region.
