UPDATE: A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 3 to 6 years in prison for robbing a Norristown resident of his cellphone while he sat on his porch. Naquin Namir Mitchell, 24, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court following a guilty plea to felony robbery charges related to the incident that occurred on June 11, 2025.

The court’s ruling was delivered by Judge William R. Carpenter, who also mandated that Mitchell complete an additional year of probation after parole, which means he will be under supervision for a total of seven years. The judge has prohibited any contact between Mitchell and the victim.

Details of the robbery reveal a frightening encounter for the victim, who reported to police that he was approached by Mitchell while sitting on his front porch in the 600 block of Haws Avenue. At approximately 8:17 a.m., Mitchell demanded that the victim “run his pockets” while reaching towards his waistband, causing the victim to fear he was armed.

Fearing for his safety, the victim surrendered his Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra to Mitchell, who then fled on foot. Authorities quickly responded, tracking the stolen phone to the intersection of Haws Avenue and Marshall Street and later to Haws Avenue and Blackberry Alley. Norristown police arrested Mitchell later that same day.

During questioning, Mitchell admitted to stealing the phone and later discarding it near the intersection of Stanbridge and Main Streets. As part of the plea agreement, additional charges, including theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and terroristic threats, were dismissed.

This case underscores the urgent need for community vigilance and support for victims of crime. With the increase in street crime, residents are urged to remain aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.

Moving forward, the victim in this incident is likely to feel the emotional impact of the robbery for some time. The court’s decision reflects a commitment to ensuring justice while also emphasizing the importance of accountability for such actions.
