Penguins Dominate Hershey 5-2, Secure Third Straight Win
UPDATE: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins delivered a stunning performance Saturday night, scoring a remarkable five goals in the first period to defeat the Hershey Bears 5-2 at Mohegan Arena. This victory marks the Penguins’ third consecutive win against Hershey and elevates them to first place in the Atlantic Division, now up by three points over Providence.
The Penguins wasted no time showcasing their dominance. Just two minutes into the game, Nolan Renwick opened the scoring, quickly followed by Raivis Ansons just one minute later, pushing the score to 2-0. Although Hershey responded with a goal to close the gap to 2-1, the Penguins swiftly retaliated. Back-to-back goals from Gabe Klassen and Phil Tomasino, who netted his fifth goal of the season, cemented a commanding 5-1 lead by the end of the first period.
Hershey struggled to catch up, managing the same number of shots as the Penguins (21) but failing to convert effectively. Penguins’ goalkeeper Sergei Murashov shone with a stellar performance, stopping 19 of 21 shots to secure the win.
This victory is crucial not just for the standings but also for team morale as they prepare for the next challenge. The Penguins will face Lehigh Valley on Sunday at 3 p.m., followed by two more games next week, including a home match against Charlotte on Tuesday and an away game in Syracuse on Saturday.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Penguins aim to extend their winning streak and solidify their top position in the league!
