King originally rejected a $22,025,000 qualifying offer from the Padres last month, making this re-signing even more significant. He joined San Diego in a blockbuster trade from the New York Yankees in December 2023, which saw stars Juan Soto and Trent Grisham head to New York.
During his tenure with the Padres, King has demonstrated impressive stats, boasting an 18-12 record and a 3.10 ERA over two seasons. In 2024, he made 30 starts, finishing with a 13-9 record and a remarkable 2.95 ERA.
