NYPD Shoots 22-Year-Old Felon During Brooklyn Gunfight

URGENT UPDATE: NYPD officers intervened in a gunfight in Brooklyn last night, shooting a 22-year-old felon who had been released from prison just two months ago. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in Prospect Park South, as officers patrolling Ocean Avenue heard gunfire and rushed to the scene.
According to NYPD officials, the officers witnessed two suspects exchanging shots when they made the critical decision to engage. “Tonight our officers ran towards gunfire and bravely confronted a dangerous situation,” said Assistant Chief Frank Giordano during a press conference. This swift action was vital in preventing further violence.
The suspect, identified as Edynesson Bauduy, was struck by police gunfire and transported to Kings County Hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities confirm that Bauduy is a two-time convicted felon who was recently paroled on June 10, 2023, after serving time for a prior shooting incident and a violent robbery in South Brooklyn.
Giordano emphasized the serious implications of Bauduy’s early release. “If he had received a consecutive sentence for his two distinct violent crimes, he would not be out on the streets right now,” Giordano stated. “This is a person who has repeatedly shrugged off the consequences of his actions.”
The second suspect in the gunfight fled toward Church Avenue, and the police are actively searching for him. Officers recovered one gun and several shell casings from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
Both officers involved in the incident were evaluated at a local hospital as a precaution. The NYPD’s response underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement and the urgent need for a discussion on public safety and criminal justice reform.
As the investigation unfolds, community members are urged to stay vigilant and report any information related to the fleeing suspect. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and raises critical questions about the effectiveness of the current justice system in addressing violent crime.
