UPDATE: The festive season kicks off in Newark as the highly anticipated pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, officially launches today, September 12. Audiences can expect a dazzling performance from December 5 at the Newark Palace Theatre, promising to bring holiday cheer to the community.

In a vibrant display, cast members took to the streets of Newark, captivating locals with their spirited costumes. They received a warm welcome from Mayor Barbara Corrigan, who celebrated the return of this beloved annual tradition. The characters even made a surprise appearance at a wedding rehearsal, adding a touch of magic to the town.

Leading the cast is Breanna Bradshaw in her second season as Beauty. She expressed her excitement about portraying a character filled with kindness and warmth, saying, “She’s very caring and always wants everyone else to be looked after.” Breanna, new to Newark, is eager to explore the town during the festive season.

Joining her is Steven Pinder, who plays Beauty’s father, Jean Jacques. He fondly recalls playing football in Newark years ago and is thrilled to return. “This is such a beautiful theatre here in Newark,” he remarked. “It’s my favorite pantomime with a captivating story that includes some good scary bits and lots of humor.”

Adding to the comedic flair, Chris Aukett takes on the role of Dame Dorothea, promising to deliver plenty of laughs and audience interaction. “This show has a bit of everything for big kids and little kids,” he stated, highlighting the fun and silliness that awaits.

Meanwhile, Adam Shorey, a panto veteran, will bring his character Potty Pierre to life. He anticipates the school performances the most, saying, “The kids really engage with you as a character, and it’s fantastic to see their reactions.”

The role of the Beast will be portrayed by Paul Murdock, who is making his pantomime debut. He expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’ve always wanted to do a panto; it’s such a hoot!” His character’s journey promises excitement and lessons learned.

Adding to the magic is Laura Pigott, who plays the Fairy Formidable, vowing to bring “lots of magic and sparkle.” She described Beauty and the Beast as a traditional family panto that offers something for everyone.

Villainy will be brought to life by Daniele Coombe, who is excited to play Malevolent for the first time. “I’m looking forward to scaring the kids — in a good way!” she said, reflecting on her delightful experiences in Newark during rehearsals.
