URGENT UPDATE: A motorcyclist has suffered minor injuries after being pinned under a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office vehicle following a high-speed police chase that unfolded late Saturday night. The incident occurred at approximately 10:36 PM on October 14, 2023, at a traffic checkpoint on the intersection of Old Beatty Ford Road and China Grove.

Authorities confirm that the checkpoint was established in response to numerous citizen complaints regarding traffic violations in the area. As deputies signaled for the two motorcyclists to stop, both fled the scene, leading to a dangerous pursuit. The chase escalated quickly, culminating in one motorcycle crashing at the intersection of Daugherty Road and Bostian Road, where the rider was pinned under the pursuing deputy’s vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash, successfully freeing the injured motorcyclist, who was then transported to Atrium Health Cabarrus for treatment of minor injuries. Meanwhile, the second motorcyclist continued to flee, prompting a broader search effort. Deputies, along with troopers from the N.C. Highway Patrol, attempted to locate the suspect but lost sight of the motorcycle on Interstate 85. It was later discovered abandoned at Exit 47 in Cabarrus County.

As of now, authorities are working to identify the second suspect and any charges related to this incident. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with information to contact them at 704-216-8700 or reach out to Rowan County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245. In the aftermath of the crash, both Daugherty Road and Bostian Road were closed at the intersection, causing significant traffic disruptions.

This developing story highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces with traffic violations and high-speed pursuits. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
