UPDATE: The annual Mims Kids Inc. Stay in School Rally kicked off today, distributing 250 bags of crucial school supplies to local families in need, well ahead of the school year starting on August 1. The event, held at the 41 South Farmer’s Market in Tifton, saw cars lining up as early as 10:00 a.m., two hours before the official start time.

Organizers, led by M. Jay Hall, swiftly began handing out bags filled with essential items, including glue, loose-leaf paper, binders, pens, pencils, and folders. Despite soaring temperatures nearing 100 degrees, community members arrived in droves, eager to receive support. “You hate to have them sit and wait,” Hall remarked, emphasizing the increased need this year.

The rally not only provided supplies but also featured contributions from the Department of Public Health, which distributed vital health information, while hygiene items were also offered to attendees. Hall noted the importance of community involvement, stating, “We’re blessed to have good community involvement.”

This year marked the 14th annual Stay in School Rally, which has become a cornerstone event, assisting children from kindergarten through high school. “It’s just a blessing,” Hall added, expressing excitement for future events.

By 12:30 p.m., all school supply bags had been claimed, with only a few clothing items remaining. Hall highlighted the generous contributions of new clothing donations, further enriching the event’s offerings.

The rally brought together a dedicated group of volunteers, including members from the Tift County High Class of 1980 and the Lupus Foundation, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting local youth.

As the school year approaches, the impact of today’s rally will resonate throughout Tift County, providing essential resources to help students begin their academic journeys successfully. Stay tuned for more updates on community initiatives aimed at fostering education and support for local families.
