Marshall ISD Announces Major Pay Increases for Teachers, Staff

UPDATE: Marshall ISD has just announced significant pay increases for teachers and staff that exceed Texas state mandates, aiming to enhance retention and attract top talent. In a landmark decision, the school board approved the 2025-26 compensation plan, which includes raises as high as $10,000 for veteran educators.
Under the new plan, teachers with three to four years of experience will receive a $5,000 boost to their salaries. Those with five years or more will see their pay jump by $10,000. Even teachers with one to two years of experience will benefit, earning an additional $1,000.
In a move to support all district employees, including administrators, the board has approved a 5% salary increase across the board. Additionally, substitute teachers will see substantial pay increases: those without degrees will earn $85 per day, while those with degrees will receive $110. Certified teachers will earn between $125 and $135 daily.
“This is a huge, huge change for our district,” said Brad Burris, board president. The decision comes as part of a broader strategy to improve teacher retention rates, according to Andy Chilcoat, assistant superintendent for auxiliary services. He emphasized that these increases will position Marshall ISD “at or above anyone in this region.”
The funding for these raises will come from the district’s operating budget, which is currently under review. The final budget presentation is expected at the next board meeting. Non-administrators who hold a master’s degree or PhD will also receive a $2,000 stipend.
As these changes take effect, the community is eager to see how they will impact local education and teacher satisfaction. The urgency of this announcement has sparked conversations among educators and parents alike, highlighting the importance of investing in quality education.
