URGENT UPDATE: The LPGA Tour is making a significant comeback to the Bay Area after a four-year hiatus, announcing the return of the Fortinet Founders Cup at the prestigious Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club in Menlo Park from March 19-22, 2024. This exciting development was confirmed by the LPGA just hours ago.

The $3 million purse for the event marks a substantial increase from this year’s $2 million, highlighting the growing importance of this tournament in the global golf landscape. Fortinet, a cybersecurity giant based in Sunnyvale, has secured a multi-year partnership as the title sponsor, although the specific duration of the deal remains undisclosed.

The Founders Cup, now in its 15th edition, celebrates the legacy of the 13 women who founded the LPGA in 1950. This historic event has previously taken place in locations such as Arizona, New Jersey, and Florida, but will now grace the Bay Area’s renowned golf scene, which includes events like the 2023 International Crown at TPC Harding Park and the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open at the Olympic Club.

This year, Yealimi Noh captured her first LPGA victory at the Founders Cup, defeating top competitor Jin Young Ko. In 2024, local star Rose Zhang is expected to defend her title, adding to the event’s allure for local fans and aspiring golfers.

LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Fortinet, stating,

“We’re fired up to welcome Fortinet as the title partner of the Founders Cup. This partnership allows us to celebrate our deep ties to Northern California while growing the game and inspiring future generations.”

The return of the Founders Cup is not just a win for the LPGA but also for the golf community in Northern California, which has been eager for high-caliber events. The last regular LPGA Tour stop in the area was the Mediheal Championship from 2018-2021, with no event held in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As golf fans gear up for this thrilling tournament, the anticipation is palpable. Mark your calendars for March 19-22, 2024, as the LPGA brings top-tier talent back to Menlo Park, igniting excitement for players and spectators alike.

Stay tuned for more updates as the event approaches, and prepare for an unforgettable experience at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club!
