URGENT UPDATE: A well-known local bull rider, Randy Wayne Whitener Jr., has been arrested on multiple charges related to child exploitation, sending shockwaves through the Rutherford County community. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whitener, aged 32, was taken into custody on September 17, 2023, following a thorough investigation into allegations of indecent liberties with a minor.

The investigation began when officials from Polk County Middle School alerted authorities on September 9 about inappropriate social media interactions involving a 13-year-old girl. Deputies swiftly arrested Whitener the following day, September 10, charging him with solicitation of a child using electronic devices as well as indecent liberties with a child. He was released later that day after posting a $36,000 bond.

As detectives delved deeper into the case, additional charges were filed against Whitener, including seven counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, eleven counts of obscene literature and exhibitions, and eleven counts of taking indecent liberties with children. This led to a significant escalation in the case, resulting in a new bond of $450,000 issued on September 19, which Whitener posted before being released that same day.

Whitener has been active in the local bull riding scene, recently performing in the Professional Bull Rider Series since his debut in June 2023. The nature of these allegations has raised serious concerns in the community and beyond.

Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright emphasized the importance of parental vigilance in light of these developments. “Today more than ever, it’s crucial for parents to have conversations with their children about online safety. Remind them to protect their personal information and to always report inappropriate behavior,” he stated.

This case is ongoing, with detectives actively investigating potential additional victims. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information related to this case to come forward by calling 828-894-3001.

The gravity of these accusations and the involvement of a public figure highlight the urgent need for community awareness and proactive measures in safeguarding children against exploitation. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
