LaGuardia Community College Launches $94,342 Evening Hub for Adults

LaGuardia has experienced a significant demographic shift, with adult learners now forming a predominant part of the student body. Dr. Oropeza noted, “This shift, alongside the New York State Opportunity Promise (NYSOP), presents an opportunity for the college to adapt and provide tailored support.”

The Adult Learner Evening Hub is designed to enhance enrollment and persistence rates by aligning academic and support services with adult learners’ schedules. Dr. Oropeza outlined ambitious plans for the hub, which will offer a range of services including academic advising, Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), tutoring, career counseling, and access to essential student services like financial aid.

This initiative builds on LaGuardia’s commitment to workforce-to-credit pathways, recognizing that many adult students transition from workforce training to degree programs. “These students require ongoing, holistic support as they move into credit-bearing programs,” Dr. Oropeza explained.
