URGENT UPDATE: Kevin Costner is facing a lawsuit for approximately $440,000 in unpaid fees related to costume rentals for his film Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2. The lawsuit was filed by Western Costume in California state court on Monday, amid ongoing financial struggles for the actor and director as he seeks funding to complete his ambitious Western series.

This legal action comes as Costner’s production company, Territory Pictures, grapples with significant financial challenges. According to the complaint, Western Costume alleges that the production did not pay the agreed rental fee of roughly $134,000 and failed to return several costumes undamaged.

The Horizon series has faced a rocky road, with the first installment earning only $38.7 million on a budget of $100 million. As a result, the release date for Chapter 2 remains uncertain. Western Costume’s lawsuit highlights the mounting pressures on Costner, whose plans to finalize the series have been hindered by financing woes.

Earlier this year, Costner attempted to secure funding from Saudi officials for the third and fourth installments, but reports indicate those discussions did not lead to a financial agreement. The ongoing financial turmoil has placed the future of the Horizon series in jeopardy, with no clear path forward.

In addition to the costume lawsuit, Costner’s production is embroiled in another legal battle related to a lawsuit filed by a stunt performer over allegations of sexual discrimination and harassment during the filming of an unscripted scene. The production has also recently settled a previous lawsuit concerning unpaid rentals from Chapter 1 and its sequel.

As construction continues on a $100 million film studio in Utah led by Costner and Territory Pictures, a hearing is scheduled for March 2024 regarding arbitration between Costner’s company and bondholder City National Bank. This arbitration stems from alleged breaches of a co-financing agreement, which has intensified the ongoing legal disputes surrounding the project.

With multiple lawsuits and financial obstacles, the future of Horizon hangs in the balance. Fans and industry insiders are eagerly watching to see how these developments will impact the long-awaited completion of Kevin Costner’s Western vision.
