Jolly Valley Carolers Spread Holiday Cheer Amid Winter Chill
UPDATE: The Jolly Valley Carolers are back, bringing holiday cheer to local neighborhoods on this chilly evening of December 9, 2023. This beloved tradition, now in its sixth year, kicked off with excitement as residents eagerly anticipated the arrival of the festive group, who were seen parading through the Valley despite the winter chill.
With temperatures dropping, the community was prepared for a delightful surprise as the carolers rang doorbells and spread joy. Many neighbors, informed by advance notices plastered on telephone poles, stood ready by their windows and even ventured out into the brisk air to enjoy the performance. Caroling mainstays Eric and Brandon Cox, who have participated since childhood, led the joyful procession, showcasing the spirit of the season.
The night began at Anne Lowther’s home on Hagner Street, where the carolers gathered for a pre-walk celebration to set the festive tone. After some refreshments, the group was ready to embark on their mission, led by Butch O’Brien in a red pickup truck, dubbed “Santa’s sleigh.” The atmosphere was filled with laughter and anticipation as neighbors prepared to be serenaded.
This year’s performance featured a live Nativity scene, complete with baby Louie Pacell IV in a mobile manger. The carolers, armed with lyric sheets, began their journey, brightening the streets with their song. A few gentle snowflakes fell, adding a magical touch to the evening.
Residents along the caroling route welcomed the singers with open arms, many stepping outside despite the cold. The event not only uplifted spirits but also strengthened community bonds as families gathered to enjoy the performance. The cacophony of voices rang out, evoking smiles and laughter, demonstrating the true spirit of the holidays.
As the carolers made their way back to Hagner Street, the celebration continued with socializing and reminiscing about past caroling adventures. The night was a reminder of the joy that comes from community connections and shared traditions, proving that even in the coldest weather, the warmth of togetherness shines bright.
For those who missed this year’s performance, the anticipation for next year’s Jolly Valley Carolers is already building, promising more joy and holiday spirit in the years to come. Stay tuned for updates on this cherished community tradition!
