UPDATE: Janet Jean Thomsen, age 93, of Everly, Iowa, has passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, surrounded by loved ones. This profound loss is felt deeply by her family and community, as they prepare to celebrate her remarkable life.

Born on September 25, 1932, in Sutherland, Iowa, Janet was one of six children in the Bobolz family. She spent her early years in Calumet before moving to Hartley for her education. A graduate of Moneta High School in 1950, she went on to pursue nursing at the Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating as a registered nurse in 1953.

Janet married her beloved husband, Stanley (Rod) Thomsen, on October 24, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hartley. Together, they raised four children on their farm south of Moneta until 1981, when they moved to Everly. Janet’s nursing career was briefly paused to focus on family, yet her commitment to caring for others never waned. Friends and neighbors cherished her compassionate spirit, often turning to her for support in times of need.

Throughout her life, Janet was actively involved in Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, where she held numerous roles, reflecting her deep faith and commitment to service. Her love for gardening and cooking left lasting memories for her family, who fondly recall her home-cooked meals and beautiful gardens. An avid sports fan, she supported both the Cyclones and the Hawkeyes, making sports events another cherished family tradition.

Janet’s family describes her as a woman of unwavering love and dedication, always ensuring her children and grandchildren felt cherished. “She had a unique way of making every moment special,” her family shared. “From sprinkles on ice cream to attending countless athletic events, her love was felt in every detail.”

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Janet knew it was her time to go home. Her family felt the weight of this “long goodbye,” yet they hold tightly to the memories of her true self, which will forever remain in their hearts.

Left to honor her memory are her son Terry (Pat) Thomsen of Hartley; daughter Pat Thomsen of Milford; son Dan (Paula) Thomsen of Ankeny; and daughter Lori (Neill) Johnson of Plymouth, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Gale Bobolz and sister Linda Tewes.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10 a.m., at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, with visitation one hour prior. Janet will be laid to rest at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly. Warner Funeral Homes is managing the arrangements.

This heartfelt tribute to a life dedicated to family, faith, and community will surely resonate with all who knew her. Janet Jean Thomsen’s legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
