BREAKING: A husband and wife team has skyrocketed their small bakery, Mav’s Top Buns, to over $1 million in sales, selling more than 500,000 cinnamon buns without spending a single cent on marketing. Nikki and Mike Ashkar have transformed a humble baking endeavor into a thriving business in just five years, captivating customers through social media.

In January 2024, Mav’s Top Buns surpassed the milestone of $1 million in revenue, highlighting an extraordinary rise from selling buns out of a U-Haul truck to operating a popular bakery in New Jersey. “We went from selling cinnamon buns from a U-Haul truck to making over $1 million in about a year,” said Nikki Ashkar.

The Ashkars manage to produce up to 1,000 buns daily on peak weekends, a feat achieved while balancing their family life. Nikki, who opened the bakery while eight months pregnant, pours her heart into the business, stating, “Sometimes we’d lose power and we’d roll buns by candlelight. If you keep going, you will succeed.”

Their signature buns, priced at $10 each, are made with a meticulous 72-hour dough resting process, topped with a secret frosting blend of vanilla bean and cream cheese. “We ice every single nook and cranny,” Nikki noted, emphasizing quality over quantity.

Harnessing the power of social media, Nikki has effectively marketed Mav’s Top Buns without traditional advertising. Since launching their Instagram account in 2020, some posts have gone viral, amassing 80,000 likes and generating buzz. “The more viral you get, the more comments you receive, which is good for the algorithm,” she explained.

Beyond the delicious treats, the Ashkars’ authenticity resonates with customers. Their quirky posts, showcasing cinnamon buns with metal music and playful videos, have helped cultivate a loyal following. “People relate to us because they know how hard a mom and dad work,” Nikki shared, reflecting on the community support they have received.

As the couple navigates the challenges of entrepreneurship and parenthood—juggling three kids alongside their bakery—their story serves as an inspiration to many. “When you believe in your product and bring something unique to the table, you become that,” Nikki emphasized.

With their remarkable journey and dedication to quality, Mav’s Top Buns continues to rise in popularity, making headlines and capturing the hearts of cinnamon bun lovers everywhere. Keep an eye out for this dynamic duo as they bake their way to even greater success.
