The Highmark Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia is gearing up for significant changes as it approaches its 50th anniversary. The venue has announced the appointment of two influential business figures to its Board of Directors: Dan Tropeano, market president of Highmark Blue Shield in southeastern Pennsylvania, and Sam Hamilton, co-founder and executive vice president of Haverford Retail Partners.

New Leadership to Foster Growth

These appointments come at a critical juncture for the Highmark Mann Center, which is undergoing a transformative period. Catherine M. Cahill, president and CEO of Highmark Mann, noted that the board’s strength is vital for advancing the center’s vision. “We are in the midst of a transformative era as we enter our 50th year as the region’s premier outdoor performing arts center,” Cahill stated.

Tropeano is expected to leverage his strategic leadership skills to enhance the center’s connection with the community. He oversees Highmark Blue Shield’s strategy in southeastern Pennsylvania, focusing on expanding community health solutions. Prior to his current role, Tropeano spent over 15 years at UnitedHealth Group, where he held senior positions, including CEO of health plans in Pennsylvania and Delaware.

“It is a privilege to join forces with Highmark Mann, not only through our recently expanded collaboration, but on a personal level,” Tropeano said, emphasizing the arts’ role as a source of community connection and healing.

Bringing Real Estate Expertise

Joining Tropeano is Hamilton, whose extensive background in real estate investment and development will be invaluable. As co-founder of Haverford Retail Partners, he leads business development for a portfolio of over 2.0 million square feet of grocery-anchored retail properties valued at more than $300 million. Hamilton began his career at Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, focusing on integrating healthcare services into retail.

Hamilton expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to the Highmark Mann Center, stating, “As a lifelong native, I’ve witnessed the impact Highmark Mann has made on Philadelphia communities and beyond.” His commitment to civic engagement is also reflected in his board memberships at The Franklin Institute and the Haverford School.

The combined experience of Tropeano and Hamilton positions the Highmark Mann Center for continued growth. Officials believe their leadership will not only enhance the center’s artistic mission but also deepen community ties and ensure a sustainable future for the next generation of audiences.

As the center prepares for its milestone anniversary, the community looks forward to the innovative changes and artistic programming that these new board members will help facilitate.
