Harmony Co-op Raises $2,200 for MMIW 218 and Hope House
URGENT UPDATE: Harmony Food Co-op has just announced a successful fundraising initiative, raising a total of $2,200 during its annual Buy Local – Give Local event held on November 28 in Bemidji, Minnesota. This effort directly benefits two vital local organizations: MMIW 218 and Hope House Bemidji.
Thanks to overwhelming community support, both organizations received $1,100 each, empowering them to continue their essential work in the region. “Because of YOUR support, we were able to donate $1,100 to each organization — helping them continue the incredible work they do right here in Bemidji,” a recent release stated.
MMIW 218, founded by Indigenous women from the Bemichigaamag area, focuses on addressing the urgent issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR). Their mission includes advocacy, education, and support for families impacted by this devastating epidemic that affects Indigenous communities nationwide.
In addition, Hope House provides crucial support for individuals grappling with serious mental illness. Their programs foster a sense of community and stability, connecting individuals to daily care, social events, and essential services. “Their work is quiet but powerful,” the release emphasized, highlighting the importance of their role in maintaining mental health within the community.
“This event exemplifies the spirit of community engagement,” organizers stated. “Thank you for showing up, shopping local, and making a difference. Together, we’re building a stronger community.”
