UPDATE: Great Bend is gearing up for its highly anticipated 20th Annual Home for the Holidays Festival on November 29, promising a day filled with festive activities and community spirit. Just announced at the Great Bend City Council meeting, Public Relations Director Addison Crites detailed the exciting lineup of events.

“This year, it’s going to be another jam-packed day,” Crites confirmed. The festival coincides with Small Business Saturday and features a range of attractions, including the Cookie Contest hosted by Rosewood, a pop-up market by Dilly and Docs, and the much-loved Christmas Craft Mall.

The festivities kick off early, with the Golden Belt Model Railroad opening its doors in the morning. The main event, a vibrant parade with nearly 40 entries, starts at 5:30 PM. This year’s parade theme, Holiday Movie Madness, sets the stage for a spectacular celebration.

Following the parade, the Mayor’s Christmas Tree will be lit, illuminating the night. Attendees can enjoy free hot dogs and hot chocolate provided by Mark Bitter, alongside free carriage, wagon, and Dolly Trolley rides courtesy of Rosewood. Additionally, the City of Great Bend will offer train rides, while the Busy Buzzer 4-H Club presents a Christmas Petting Zoo for families to enjoy.

In an effort to give back, festival-goers can participate in the Pawsitive Luminaries event on Saturday from 5-8 PM in Jack Kilby Square. For a donation of just $5, attendees can light a luminary in honor of a beloved pet, with proceeds benefiting Pawn and Claws/Adopt A Pet.

Volunteers are urgently needed for the Trail of Lights greeter booth at Brit Spaugh Park, with openings available on December 7, 9, and 16. Shifts run from 6-8 PM, where volunteers will distribute candy canes and greeter bags. Crites expressed gratitude towards Marissa Woodmansee and the Youth Crew for preparing 1,000 greeter bags this week.

As excitement builds for the Home for the Holidays Festival, residents are encouraged to participate and help create joyful memories for the community. Don’t miss out on this remarkable celebration that brings people together during the most wonderful time of the year!
