URGENT UPDATE: A day of free organ workshops and a family-friendly concert is set to take place this Saturday, September 20, at the Hope Community Methodist Church in Newark. This exciting event, named “Pipe Dreams,” invites the community to explore the majestic world of organ music.

Starting at 10am, participants aged 10 to 14 will engage in hands-on discovery sessions, learning how the organ works. These workshops will run until 11am, followed by a second session for those over 14 from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Attendees will have the chance to build a working organ and learn the basics of playing this incredible instrument.

Later in the day, from 2pm to 3pm, younger participants can bring their favorite pieces to try their skills on the organ, guided by an experienced organist. This is an incredible opportunity for aspiring musicians to gain insight into the unique attributes of the organ compared to other instruments. The second play session for individuals aged 18 and over will take place from 3:15pm to 4:15pm.

To conclude the day, a spectacular free concert featuring the church’s resident expert organists will be held from 5pm to 6pm. Attendees can look forward to hearing Bach’s iconic Toccata and Fugue in D minor, followed by tea and cakes.

Dr. Stephen Bullamore, Director of Music at Newark Parish Church, expressed his enthusiasm:

“I’m really looking forward to sharing this event with everyone. The pipe organ is a wonderful instrument and we will be exploring all dimensions of its existence – how it works, how to play it and how it sounds.”

All events are free to attend, but advance booking is required. Interested participants can secure their spots online at www.stmnewark.org/pipe-dreams.

This community-focused event not only celebrates the artistry of organ music but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the instrument among all ages. Don’t miss this chance to be part of a unique musical experience!
