UPDATE: The annual Floyd County Heritage Fest is set to transform the community this Saturday, July 26, 2024, with a day packed full of free family activities and historical fun. Taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Floyd County Museum and nearby Andres Park, this event promises an immersive experience for residents and visitors alike.

Families can dive into a variety of engaging activities, including hands-on crafts, games, and live music. The museum’s director, McKenna Lloyd, emphasizes, “There is no admission cost for Heritage Fest. This is a day of totally free fun for everyone, far and wide, to enjoy.”

The museum will open its doors at no charge, featuring the popular Charles City Model Railroad Club room, typically closed to the public. Attendees can also explore booths hosted by local vendors offering handmade goods, artisan displays, and interactive exhibits throughout the park.

One of the highlights this year is a petting zoo that will delight children and adults alike, along with a showcase of historic tractors. Live acoustic music will kick off with a performance by Kris Karr, an Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductee, starting at 10 a.m. Karr, a local favorite from Charles City, is known for his engaging solo shows and band performances.

Food lovers can savor delicious offerings from the Spice of Egypt food truck, which will serve authentic Egyptian dishes like shawarma, enhancing the festival experience.

Lloyd encourages families looking for a day of enjoyment to attend, stating, “If you’re looking for somewhere to bring your kiddos or to enjoy yourself on Saturday, please come out.”
