F&M Bank’s $50K Boost Pushes Granite Civic Park Renovations Forward

URGENT UPDATE: Granite Quarry’s Civic Park Transformation Project is gaining momentum with a significant donation from F&M Bank of North Carolina, who just announced a generous $50,000 contribution. This latest funding move propels the project closer to realization, as the town now rallies to secure an additional $700,000 needed to kick off phase one.
The donation from F&M Bank joins a robust lineup of funding sources, including a $35,000 grant from the Robertson Foundation, a $20,000 grant from the Woodson Foundation, a $100,000 grant from the Cannon Foundation, and a $500,000 grant from the N.C. Parks and Recreation and Trust Fund. The latter grant requires a matching commitment of $500,000 from the town, which has been the only funding allocated thus far.
During a Town Council meeting on Monday, officials confirmed they received the first installment of $10,000 from F&M Bank and approved a budget amendment to advance the project. Town Manager Jason Hord expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from local foundations, stating, “It is incredible how much support we’ve received from these foundations and partners alike.” Hord emphasized the excitement for continuing collaborations as they move into the next phases of the project.
The first phase of the Civic Park renovations aims to introduce essential updates, including new shelter renovations, modern playground equipment, a splash pad, a basketball court, and new pickleball courts. Hord noted that the town anticipates launching a fundraising campaign in about two weeks, inviting community members to contribute through individual bench sponsorships, in-kind donations, and monetary contributions.
“This is a community effort,” Hord said. “We’ve had a lot of interest, and we’re eager to announce more partnerships soon.” Granite Quarry hopes to break ground on the project in late 2025 or early 2026, with the first phase expected to be completed by the end of spring.
As the project progresses, local residents are encouraged to stay engaged and informed about upcoming fundraising opportunities. The community’s involvement will be crucial in making the Civic Park a vibrant hub for recreation and social interaction.
