Fatal Crash in St. Petersburg Claims Life, Multiple Injured
URGENT UPDATE: A fatal traffic accident has just occurred in St. Petersburg, claiming the life of 31-year-old Izell Shelby on Saturday, December 27, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. The incident took place at the intersection of N Frontage Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to initial reports from the St. Petersburg Police Department, Shelby was driving a blue Dodge Charger at an alarming speed when he failed to stop for a red light. Simultaneously, a silver Mitsubishi Outlander was proceeding through the intersection on a green signal, leading to a catastrophic collision. Shelby’s vehicle struck the Mitsubishi, resulting in severe injuries.
Emergency responders transported Shelby to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the Mitsubishi and her three passengers were also taken to the same hospital but were reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Just before the crash, an officer observed Shelby driving recklessly along Gandy Boulevard. The officer attempted to intervene but did not pursue the Charger after Shelby evaded capture. It was later confirmed that Shelby had an active warrant and was driving with a suspended license due to previous infractions.
Investigators have indicated that both speed and the lack of safety belt usage are likely contributing factors to this tragic accident. The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the events leading up to the crash, and further updates are anticipated as details emerge.
Local residents are in shock as this incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding reckless driving in the area. Authorities urge all drivers to adhere to traffic signals and prioritize safety on the roads.
