BREAKING: An Elyria man was sentenced to 39 to 44 years in prison for a violent attack on law enforcement officers during a court hearing. Andrew Davison, 42Judge Christopher Rothgery in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.

The courtroom incident occurred on June 12, 2024, when Davison violently resisted arrest, injuring three officers. According to the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office, this verdict is a critical step towards justice. “Today marks a verdict for justice,” the office stated in a press release.

During the hearing, Davison was found guilty of attacking an Elyria Police Department sergeant and two deputies from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office. “Their actions that day saved lives in the courtroom,” the statement emphasized. The severity of his actions has led to a consecutive sentencing that combines his current punishment with previous sentences totaling 18 to 27 years for earlier crimes.

Prosecutor Tony Cillo and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Susan Oates highlighted the importance of this case, stating, “This outcome reflects the tireless efforts of law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community to ensure accountability and protect public safety.”

Elyria Police Chief James Welsh also expressed his thoughts on the verdict. “He brutally and viciously attacked Lorain County deputies and Sgt. (Michael) Walker in Judge Rothgery’s Courtroom,” Welsh said. He praised Sgt. Walker’s swift actions, which were crucial in averting further harm. “Sgt. Walker is still recovering from his injuries, and I hope he returns to full duty quickly. He is a great asset to the Elyria Police Department,” Welsh added.

Davison’s criminal history includes a stabbing incident on June 16, 2024, where he confessed to stabbing a man in a vacant lot in Elyria. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his face and head, prompting a swift police response. Officers later apprehended Davison at the scene, where he still possessed the knife used in the attack.

As the community processes this significant verdict, there is a palpable sense of relief. The decisive action taken by law enforcement has underscored the commitment to ensuring safety in the courtroom and beyond.
