UPDATE: Durango’s downtown is gearing up for an action-packed Halloween and festive holiday season! The Durango Business Improvement District (BID) has just announced a series of family-friendly events that promise to engage the community and create lasting memories.

The highly anticipated Downtown Children’s Halloween, presented by Clearnetworx, will take place on October 31, 2023, from 4 PM to 6 PM. This free event invites families to enjoy safe trick-or-treating, with nearly 100 businesses on Main Avenue, East Second Avenue, and surrounding streets participating. Children aged 10 and younger are encouraged to dress in costume and join the fun, escorted by an adult.

As the excitement builds, families will also have the chance to meet representatives from local emergency services, including the Durango Police Department and Durango Fire and Rescue, at the intersections of 7th and 10th Street. The event will feature a Halloween Carnival hosted by the Boys and Girls Club, offering games for children up to 14 years old. A special Trunk or Treat will also be available at the TBK Bank parking lot, where local businesses will distribute candy and non-candy items directly from their vehicles.

For families with children who have food allergies, the Durango Welcome Center will display a large sign indicating participating businesses that provide non-candy alternatives, ensuring everyone can join in the fun.

This beloved community tradition, started by local business owner Robert Stapleton of Southwest Sound, continues to thrive and bring the community together. Following Halloween, BID will host its final event of the year, Singing With Santa, on November 28, 2023. This festive gathering begins at 5:30 PM at Buckley Park, featuring free hot chocolate, cookies, caroling, and the lighting of the community Christmas tree.

The holiday shopping season will kick off with Noel Night on December 5, 2023. This highly anticipated event promises deals and discounts across the downtown area, fostering an atmosphere of holiday cheer. As part of the celebrations, BID will launch its Holiday Rewards program, offering digital gift cards worth $25, $50, or $100 based on spending.

Tim Walsworth, Executive Director of the Durango Business Improvement District, emphasizes the importance of these events in strengthening community bonds. “These celebrations are not just events; they are opportunities for families to come together and create lasting memories,” he stated.

As the countdown to Halloween and the holiday season begins, Durango residents and visitors alike are encouraged to join in the festivities. Stay tuned for more updates on the exciting events planned for downtown Durango!
