UPDATE: The Douglas High School girls cross country team concluded their season with a strong performance at the Class 5A state meet, finishing in ninth place on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Nevada. This final meet marks a significant moment for the team as they wrap up their fall calendar with determination and pride.

Leading the charge for the Tigers was junior Amy Van Wagenen, who delivered an impressive run, finishing in 35th place with a time of 20 minutes, 50 seconds. The urgency was palpable as Van Wagenen fought through the course, showcasing her commitment and skill.

In a bittersweet farewell, senior Lucy Nord completed her last cross country race in the black and orange, securing 42nd place with a time of 21:07. Nord’s performance was a testament to her dedication over the years, leaving a lasting legacy with her final stride.

Following closely were sophomore Krystle Dixon and junior Taylor Chase, who finished in 45th and 46th place, respectively. Dixon clocked in at 21:12, while Chase crossed the finish line just behind at 21:17. Their contributions were crucial in securing the team’s overall standing.

Senior Logan Axtell completed her race with a time of 22:18, finishing in 65th place. Teammate Azalyn Vasey followed, taking 73rd with a time of 22:56. The final runner for Douglas, Isabella Upshaw, finished in 83rd place with a time of 24:54, rounding out the team’s effort at this critical event.

This season, marked by challenges and triumph, showcased the resilience and spirit of the Douglas Tigers. Fans and family gathered to support the team at this important state meet, creating an emotional atmosphere as athletes pushed through the final miles of their season.
