UPDATE: The Dalton City Council has just approved a critical rezoning ordinance and extended a moratorium on new vape shops and similar businesses during a pivotal meeting on December 25, 2025. This urgent decision impacts local businesses and residents and comes as the city assesses its regulations regarding these establishments.

The Council voted unanimously to rezone a tract of land at 913 Riverbend Road from heavy manufacturing to rural residential, allowing for the construction of a duplex by developer Wayne Burgess. This rezoning marks a significant shift in land use in the area, following similar approvals earlier this year, highlighting a trend towards residential development.

In a major public safety update, the Council extended the existing moratorium on new regulated businesses, including vape shops, until March 31, 2026. This decision allows the city more time to analyze its ordinances and consider potential regulatory changes. Existing businesses will continue to operate as long as their licenses remain valid.

During the meeting, the Council also addressed pressing public safety issues. They approved a $1,000 fine for All-American Entertainment, LLC, the parent company of Big Time Billiards, for selling alcohol to a minor during an undercover compliance check by Dalton Police. This fine reinforces the city’s commitment to enforcing alcohol regulations.

In additional actions, the Council approved two liquor license renewals and a change order for the City Hall HVAC replacement project, costing $3,475. They also extended the lease for the Emery Center for another two years, ensuring continued community use of this facility.

Mayor Annalee Sams celebrated the achievements of local youth sports teams, recognizing the 12-U girls’ volleyball and 12-U girls’ soccer teams for their recent state championships. “This is really exciting,” said Sams, emphasizing the importance of community support for young athletes. The Council’s recognition of these teams highlights the city’s dedication to fostering youth engagement and sportsmanship.

As the city gears up for the holiday season, Mayor Sams announced that City offices would be closed on December 25 and 26 for Christmas, and on January 1, 2026 for New Year’s Day. The next City Council meeting is scheduled for January 5, 2026, where further developments are expected.

With these decisions, Dalton is poised for significant changes in its community landscape, and residents are encouraged to stay informed as the city continues to evolve. The full video of the meeting is available on the City of Dalton’s YouTube channel for those who wish to follow along with the proceedings.

This urgent update underscores the ongoing commitment of the Dalton City Council to balance development with community needs. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
