Creston Panthers Claim All-District Honors in Baseball All-Star List

UPDATE: Two standout players from the Creston Panthers have just been recognized in the all-district baseball honors announced by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Senior Parker Varner has earned first-team accolades as a pitcher, while sophomore Tom Mikkelsen has secured a spot on the second team for the Class 3A Southwest District.
The announcement, made late last week, highlights Varner’s impressive season, where he achieved a 6-2 record with an exceptional 2.18 earned run average over a team-high 61 innings. Varner struck out 72 batters and permitted only eight walks, allowing opponents to bat just .248 against him. His contributions extended beyond the mound, as he also played both third base and shortstop, leading the Panthers with a batting average of .450 and delivering 25 runs batted in.
Mikkelsen, primarily a catcher, displayed remarkable versatility throughout the season. He contributed significantly at the plate with a batting average of .363, including a team-high of three home runs and 17 RBIs. On the mound, he recorded a 2-4 pitching record with a 2.07 ERA, striking out 27 batters in 23.2 innings.
