Creator Confirms Filming & Release Plans for Dexter Season 2

UPDATE: Exciting news for Dexter fans: Creator Clyde Phillips has confirmed that filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is set to commence in spring 2026. During a recent interview on the Dissecting Dexter podcast, Phillips shared critical insights into the production timeline and what fans can expect.
Phillips, who previously served as showrunner for the original Dexter series, revealed that while Paramount has not yet officially green-lighted the sequel, he remains optimistic. “Michael [C. Hall]’s got a three-year deal. I’ve got a three-year deal. We’re gonna be making this,” Phillips declared, quelling any doubts about the project’s future.
Filming for the highly anticipated season is planned for next summer, with the writing room scheduled to open on October 6. “We will write through the holidays into early spring, and then we’ll start soft prep, meaning planning the stages and the sets and locations, and then begin the casting process,” Phillips elaborated.
However, fans should brace themselves for a wait, as the new season is unlikely to air until late 2026 or early 2027. Phillips hinted at the possibility of including characters from the canceled prequel series, Original Sin, stating, “I can’t say no to that – there always is [a chance]. Sometimes it’s in the writing room. Sometimes it occurs to me in editing.”
The revival of Dexter has reignited interest and excitement among the show’s loyal fan base. With a production timeline now in place, anticipation is building for what promises to be an electrifying continuation of the beloved series.
