Court Denies Immediate Restraining Order Against Rep. Mills

UPDATE: A Florida court has denied an immediate restraining order against Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) as of Thursday, August 17, 2023. The decision comes after Lindsey Langston, a Republican state committee official and Miss United States 2024, filed a petition accusing Mills of harassment and threats following their breakup.
The Columbia County Circuit Court has ordered both Mills and Langston to appear for a hearing on August 21 to further discuss the allegations. Langston had previously reported to law enforcement that Mills threatened to release explicit photos and videos of her, according to a sheriff’s incident report obtained by The Hill.
Lawyer Anthony Sabatini, who is advising Langston, stated that the court found no immediate danger of violence or harassment to warrant a temporary injunction at this time. “The Court finds that based upon the facts, as stated in the Petition alone… there is no appearance of an immediate and present danger,” the court document states.
Mills has vehemently denied the allegations, calling them “false” and “baseless.” In a statement released after the court’s decision, he criticized the claims and suggested that Langston’s legal actions were politically motivated, particularly pointing to Sabatini’s involvement.
Langston, age 25, claims that after ending her relationship with the 45-year-old Mills, he contacted her multiple times with threats regarding private images. This dramatic turn of events raises significant concerns about the implications of political figures and personal relationships intersecting in such a manner.
Authorities confirmed that Langston has engaged with both the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement about her allegations, but the FDLE has not commented on the ongoing inquiry.
Mills, who previously faced scrutiny regarding a separate incident involving a physical altercation with another woman in Washington, D.C., has drawn comparisons between his situation and that of former President Donald Trump, who has also faced various legal challenges.
As this case develops, with the upcoming hearing on August 21, it raises critical questions about the intersection of personal lives and political careers. Both parties are expected to present their cases, and the outcome could have lasting implications for Mills’ political future.
As the story continues to unfold, both Mills and Langston remain in the public eye, underlining the urgency of the situation and its potential impact on their lives and careers. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
