URGENT UPDATE: Colquitt County’s softball team clinched a decisive victory over Lee County, winning 5-2 in Moultrie on Thursday, effectively closing out the regular season and setting the stage for the Class 5A state playoffs.

As the Lady Trojans, who finished the season with an 18-11 record, prepare for Monday’s playoff game against Lassiter High School, they are determined to shake off the loss. The playoff matchup is crucial, as Lassiter enters with a strong 18-7 record.

In a game that showcased resilience, Lee County out-hit Colquitt 8-6, but ultimately fell short. The Lady Trojans struck first in the third inning when Raegan Watkins doubled to score the opening run. She, alongside teammate McKenzie Davis, who also recorded two hits, provided a strong offensive presence despite the team’s inability to capitalize at critical moments.

Colquitt responded swiftly, scoring three runs in the same inning. Key contributions came from Paulk, who delivered a pivotal single, and Harrell, who followed with a hit to left field. A bases-loaded walk to Eure allowed the Lady Packers to take control of the game.

On the mound, Makinley Duke started for Lee County, allowing five hits and three unearned runs over three innings, while striking out one and walking three. For Colquitt, Arrington earned the win, surrendering just two runs on five hits in four innings, striking out four batters in the process.

Despite the disappointing end to the regular season, the Lady Trojans remain focused on their playoff ambitions. They are counting on the momentum from their offensive efforts and solid defensive plays, including a double play in the game, to propel them into the playoffs.

With the playoff game against Lassiter looming, the Lady Trojans are gearing up for a fresh start, determined to make a powerful statement in the postseason. Fans and supporters are encouraged to rally behind Lee County as they aim for victory in this crucial matchup.

Stay tuned for updates as the playoff journey unfolds!
