UPDATE: Just moments ago, students at Chico State gathered to relieve stress ahead of finals week, participating in a cozy event featuring quilting and ramen on December 9, 2025. This initiative, organized by the Cross-Cultural Leadership Center, aimed to provide much-needed relaxation before the intense academic pressure of final exams.

With finals looming, the atmosphere was filled with creativity and comfort as students engaged in a crafting session where they personalized quilt squares. Jojo Carranza, the program coordinator, emphasized the importance of such events: “We’re kind of having a destress day,” she stated, highlighting the need for a warm, inviting space amidst the chaos of finals.

Students eagerly chose their quilt tile colors and utilized art supplies to express their unique styles. As they crafted, they enjoyed delicious bowls of ramen, reinforcing a sense of community and support among peers. Carranza noted, “What we like to do is bring students together. We just like to make sure everyone feels included and provide a home away from home.”

This gathering comes at a crucial time, as many students find themselves overwhelmed with assignments and exam preparations. The event not only serves as a creative outlet but also fosters connections among students, enhancing the campus culture.

Chico State’s Cross-Cultural Leadership Center regularly hosts similar events throughout the year, aimed at building relationships and providing a sanctuary for students. As the semester draws to a close, initiatives like this are vital for maintaining mental health and fostering a supportive environment.

As finals approach, students are encouraged to seek out stress-relief opportunities and connect with their peers. The need for support and community is stronger than ever during this demanding time.

For those interested in similar upcoming events, stay tuned for announcements from the Cross-Cultural Leadership Center, where more opportunities to relax and engage with fellow students will be provided.
