Cape Haze Community Center Renovation Nears Completion with $100K Upgrade

URGENT UPDATE: The renovation of the Cape Haze Community Center is nearing completion, with a substantial $100,000 investment now 90 percent finished. Located at the corner of Spyglass Alley and Spaniards Road, this historic site, originally developed by Alfred and William Vanderbilt in 1955, is set to unveil its upgraded facilities soon.
The renovation features significant improvements both indoors and outdoors, including a new flat-screen TV, fresh paint, enhanced lighting, and modern air conditioning. Bob Howell of the Cape Haze Property Owners Association emphasized that these upgrades are crucial for safety and usability. Howell stated, “It was about safety, security and being able to use it more.”
Mark your calendars! A social event will take place at the center this Friday night, October 17, 2023, providing residents a first look at the renovations. Moreover, the Property Owners Association is gearing up for a grand opening celebration during its annual meeting in November. Plans are also underway to add a covered outdoor bar area, further enhancing the community space.
The center’s architectural design showcases its mid-century modern style, featuring exposed concrete joists typical of the post-World War II era. Howell remarked, “The building is probably 70 years old. We did a lot of work on the inside and outside.”
In addition to serving as a community hub, the center plays host to events organized by the Lemon Bay Conservancy and has been a pivotal location for community initiatives, including raising $12,000 for scholarships benefiting students at Lemon Bay High School this year.
As the renovation wraps up, the Cape Haze Community Center is poised to become an even more vital asset for local residents. Stay tuned for the upcoming events and further details on the grand reopening! Share this news to spread the word about the exciting changes coming to the Cape Haze community!
