UPDATE: Cal Raleigh has just slammed his 47th home run of the season, propelling him closer to the all-time record for catchers. The Seattle Mariners star’s monumental two-run shot unfolded during the Little League Classic in Williamsport, PA, thrilling hundreds of young fans just hours after he engaged with them by signing baseballs and even a toilet seat.

Raleigh’s impressive performance not only solidifies his lead in major league home runs this season but also places him just one away from the record of 48 homers set by Kansas City’s Salvador Perez in 2021. Mariners manager Dan Wilson praised Raleigh, stating, “He continues to swing a really hot bat. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that.”

The Mariners faced a setback, falling to the New York Mets 7-3 in the final game of their series. Despite the loss, Raleigh’s power remains a bright spot for the team, which is fighting for a position in the AL wild-card race. They will head to Philadelphia on Monday for a critical three-game series where Raleigh could make history.

Displaying his prowess, Raleigh has already surpassed his previous home run totals with 27 in 2022 and 30 in 2023, and he is on track to break the 50-homer mark this season. Only five players in MLB history have hit at least 40 homers while primarily playing catcher, including Hall of Famers like Johnny Bench and Mike Piazza.

In a heartfelt moment, Raleigh donned a “Little Dumper” T-shirt, gifted by young fans, and shared his excitement about meeting them. “You grow up wanting to come here as a kid. Get to do it as an adult now,” he expressed before the game.

Raleigh’s accomplishments extend beyond home runs. He has recorded 102 RBIs this season, making him the first catcher since Piazza to achieve back-to-back 100-RBI seasons and the first in the American League since Thurman Munson.

“He’s just become a better hitter,” Wilson noted, highlighting Raleigh’s remarkable development as both a catcher and a powerful hitter.

As the Mariners look ahead to their upcoming series, all eyes will be on Raleigh as he aims to not only continue his ascent in the record books but also help his team secure a playoff spot. Stay tuned for what could be a historic milestone in Philadelphia!
