C.J. Stroud Unveils New Playground for Houston Students Today
UPDATE: C.J. Stroud’s charitable foundation is transforming the playground at Southwest Public Schools International Leadership Academy in Houston, with the grand unveiling scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2023. This exciting initiative, led by Stroud’s mother, Kimberly Stroud, aims to create a safe and engaging play environment for children in an underserved community.
The project, in collaboration with Lowe’s and Full Court Peace, responds to urgent requests from students who have long sought improvements to their dilapidated playground. “For two years, the kids have begged for a new playground,” Kimberly Stroud stated. “Their project manager, Chantal Sanchez, reached out for help because the existing facilities were unsafe and uninviting.”
The remodeled playground will feature swing sets, a jungle gym, a privacy barrier, new mulch, lights, a science garden, a racetrack, and a physical education area. These upgrades aim to enhance the quality of life for students who often rely on school facilities for joy and interaction, as many come from single-parent households.
Kimberly Stroud emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “We want the kids to know that they matter and that we see them. This playground is about bringing smiles to their faces.” Stroud, who highlighted her son C.J.’s commitment to giving back, added, “He understands their circumstances and wants to help.”
The groundwork for the new playground began last week, with volunteers dedicating their time and effort to ensure a successful launch. “It’s hard work, but we can’t wait to see the kids enjoy it,” Kimberly Stroud said, reflecting on the impact the new space will have on the children.
Kimberly also expressed deep gratitude to Lowe’s for their support, stating, “We could never have done this without them. Their resources and volunteers made a tremendous difference.”
As the ribbon-cutting ceremony approaches, the excitement builds in the community. The new playground represents more than just a recreational area; it symbolizes hope and support for children who have faced challenges that many adults can’t imagine.
