UPDATE: The Barton Community College Theatre Department is set to unveil the gripping drama “Time Stands Still”, running from October 16-19, 2023, in the Fine Arts Auditorium. This urgent performance, penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies, will draw audiences in with its poignant exploration of love and war.

Performances are scheduled for October 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. on October 19. Tickets are priced at $10, available at the door. The play is rated PG-13 due to adult language and themes, making it suitable for mature audiences.

Director Denise Williams, also a communications instructor at Barton, describes the narrative as a profound reflection on the life of Sarah, a photojournalist who returns to New York following a traumatic experience covering the war in Iraq. Her relationship with James, a foreign correspondent, is put to the test as they navigate the emotional fallout of their experiences.

“This show offers a realistic portrayal of life and relationships, particularly the devastating impact of separation on a couple who have weathered catastrophic events,” Williams stated. “It challenges the audience to think deeply about how love and war intersect in their lives.”

The urgency of this production resonates with current global themes, making it a must-see event that promises to provoke thought and discussion among attendees. Williams emphasized the importance of this serious drama, saying it provides an opportunity for student actors to grow and gain insights into diverse human experiences.

Mark your calendars: Following this performance, Barton Community College Theatre invites everyone back for the lively “The SpongeBob Musical” from March 5-8, 2024, featuring beloved characters from Bikini Bottom. Auditions for the musical will take place on November 11 and 19 from 6-9 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
