URGENT UPDATE: Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz is officially listed as day-to-day following right oblique soreness experienced during Friday’s game against the Texas Rangers. This news was confirmed by Athletics manager Mark Kotsay just moments ago.

Kurtz underwent an MRI that returned “clean,” indicating no strains or tears, yet he is currently dealing with pain tolerance issues. Kotsay stated that Kurtz felt discomfort after batting practice on Friday, which escalated when he was rounding third base on a double from Brent Rooker in the third inning. Although he managed to cross home plate to tie the game at 2-2, Kurtz immediately left the field with medical staff.

As a result, Kurtz was notably absent from the lineup in the second game of the three-game series on Saturday. Kotsay expressed hopes for a quick return, saying,

“We hope to get him back sooner than later.”

This development is particularly significant given Kurtz’s impressive performance this season. He is currently hitting .308 with 23 doubles, 2 triples, 27 home runs, and 70 RBIs. Notably, on July 25, he made history by becoming the first rookie to hit four home runs in a single game and matched the MLB record for total bases with 19 against the Houston Astros.

Fans and teammates alike are anxious to see how quickly Kurtz can recover. His absence could impact the team’s performance as they continue their series against the Rangers. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
