Arm’s CEO Reveals Bold Leadership Lessons from Nvidia’s Huang

UPDATE: Arm’s CEO, Rene Haas, has shared critical leadership insights gained during his seven years at Nvidia, specifically from working under founder Jensen Huang. Speaking at the All-In Summit 2025 in September, Haas emphasized how bold, rapid decisions can redefine a company’s trajectory.
Haas highlighted a pivotal moment when Huang made the audacious choice to scrap an entire product line, reallocating 2,000 engineers overnight. “We’re abolishing this product line. We’re going to move 2,000 engineers off of project X onto project Y,” Haas recalled. At the time, Nvidia had approximately 6,000 employees, making this sudden shift particularly striking.
This decisive action shifted Nvidia’s focus away from supporting Intel’s processors and redirected resources toward developing Arm-based designs and graphics chips. Haas noted that this strategy not only transformed Nvidia’s future but also showcased the “amazing set of characteristics” that Huang embodies—vision, speed, fearlessness, and the ability to pivot quickly.
Nvidia remains one of Arm’s flagship customers, with its latest AI chips integrating Arm-based CPUs with Nvidia’s powerful GPUs. Haas’ comments come after Nvidia’s failed attempt in 2020 to acquire Arm in a $40 billion deal, which collapsed due to regulatory issues. Despite this setback, Haas stated that Arm is not fixated on the past but is instead committed to expanding its presence across various industries, including cloud computing, networking, automotive, and the Internet of Things.
When questioned about potential competition with Nvidia, Haas remarked, “I’m not going to say Jensen is my competitor today.” However, he hinted at future possibilities, saying, “Could we do that? I hinted in the last conference call that we’re looking at going a little bit further than we do today.”
As Arm continues to innovate and adapt, the leadership lessons from Huang are likely to influence Haas’ strategies moving forward. The industry will be watching closely for how these insights shape Arm’s future initiatives.
