BREAKING: The Amherst Comets delivered a commanding performance against the Lorain Titans, clinching a decisive 70-59 victory in a thrilling nonconference clash on December 23, 2025. This win marks the Comets’ third consecutive victory, elevating their season record to 6-1 and keeping them undefeated in the Southwestern Conference at 3-0.

With a 34-31 lead at halftime, Amherst ramped up their physicality in the second half, a strategy emphasized by head coach Pat Bray during the break. “We talked about it at halftime and said that we were not physical enough, like we normally are,” Bray stated. “In the second half, we said that we had to come out and be physical, and that is what we did.”

The game featured a back-and-forth battle with six ties and six lead changes, but it was Amherst’s explosive third quarter that turned the tide. The Comets went on an 11-2 run, sparked by a remarkable 20-point performance from guard Stanley Robinson, who contributed 9 of those points during the surge. Robinson’s momentum shifted the score to 46-38 as he confidently sank a three-pointer to kick off the run.

Amherst capitalized on Lorain’s struggles, forcing the Titans into 17 turnovers, compared to their own 6. Bray noted, “We were able to turn them over,” highlighting the shift in intensity that defined the second half.

Despite facing the absence of All-Ohioan Jaylen Jackson, Lorain’s Jeremiah Daniels and Javell Morris kept the game competitive with 22 and 23 points respectively. However, inconsistent play hampered their efforts, leading to their drop to 1-7 on the season.

Coach Matthew Kielian acknowledged the challenge, stating, “The referees let us play, and it really was not in our favor to let us play because Amherst was being a little bit more physical than we were defensively.”

Amherst’s trio of standout players, including David Dudziak with 15 points and Andrew Balicki with 10 points, demonstrated the team’s depth and resilience, making the Comets a formidable opponent moving forward.

As the Titans prepare to host Avon Lake on December 27, the Comets look to continue their winning ways against Keystone on December 30. Coach Bray remains optimistic, stating, “This group is really fun… They do not get too high and never get too low.”

This thrilling victory not only solidifies Amherst’s strong start but also sets the stage for an exciting season ahead. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for updates as both teams aim to improve their standings in the coming games.
