UPDATE: Albany State University has just delivered a stunning performance, crushing Lane College 47-6 in Jackson, Tennessee, despite missing star quarterback Isaiah Knowles. This decisive victory on October 7, 2023, showcases the Golden Rams’ depth and resilience, propelling them to a 4-1 overall record and 3-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

The Golden Rams demonstrated a powerful run game and a formidable defense, making the game effectively over by halftime. Head coach Quinn Gray strategically utilized six running backs, accumulating an impressive 288 rushing yards on 48 carries. Tiant Wyche led the charge with 83 yards, while Sincere Rodriguez contributed 73 yards and a touchdown, showcasing Albany State’s depth.

With backup quarterback Jaydon Kinney stepping in for the injured Knowles, Albany State focused on efficient plays rather than flashy aerial attacks. Kinney completed 7 of 20 passes for 78 yards, including one touchdown, ensuring the Rams maintained control throughout the matchup.

From the outset, Albany State set a commanding tone. Kinney’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Jamarion Davis capped a 67-yard drive, followed by a short touchdown plunge from Roderick McCrary to make it 14-0. Lane College managed a brief highlight early in the second quarter with a touchdown from Nick Billoups, narrowing the score to 14-6.

However, Albany State’s response was immediate and emphatic. On the next kickoff, Cameron Watts sprinted 84 yards for a touchdown, restoring the lead to 21-6. The Golden Rams continued their onslaught, forcing a safety and recovering a fumble for a defensive touchdown, pushing the score to 30-6 before halftime.

A field goal just before the half extended the lead to 33-6, allowing Albany State to rotate players in the second half without losing momentum. Even with reserves, they maintained pressure, with Aljhanod Thomas and Rodriguez each adding touchdowns to solidify the victory.

Albany State’s defense was relentless, forcing three turnovers throughout the game, including two fumbles and a safety, while limiting Lane College’s offensive output significantly. This win not only reflects Albany State’s current strength but also sets the stage for an upcoming showdown.

Looking ahead, Albany State will return home next Saturday, October 14, 2023, for a crucial SIAC clash against Clark Atlanta. This game, set for 1 p.m. at ASU Coliseum, will be streamed live on ESPN+. Clark Atlanta, struggling with two consecutive losses, will come into this matchup desperate for an upset, while Albany State looks to continue its momentum as a serious contender in the conference.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Golden Rams aim to extend their winning streak and showcase their championship aspirations!
