Tom Felton, renowned for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the iconic Harry Potter film series, is set to reprise his role on the Broadway stage. Starting November 11, Felton will join the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre for a 19-week engagement, concluding on March 22, 2026. This marks a significant milestone as it will be Felton’s Broadway debut and the first instance of a film cast member joining the stage production.

The play, which is set 19 years after the original series, features Draco as a father alongside Harry, Ron, and Hermione, all of whom are now sending their children off to Hogwarts. Felton’s return to the role of Draco offers a unique full-circle moment, as he will be the same age as his character during the play’s timeline.

Felton’s Expanding Career

Beyond his association with Harry Potter, Felton has been actively expanding his acting portfolio. Recently, he appeared in the films They Will Kill You, alongside Zazie Beetz and Patricia Arquette, and Fackham Hall with Thomasin MacKenzie and Damian Lewis. Felton also made his West End debut in 2022, starring in the lead role of Sam in 2:22 A Ghost Story, and in 2024, he played the lead role of Bob Edwards in Gareth Farr’s play A Child of Science at Bristol Old Vic.

“Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community,” Felton said.

The Legacy of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, with the script penned by Thorne and direction by Tiffany. The production has been a fixture on Broadway since April 2018. Initially, the play was presented in two parts with a runtime of over five hours. However, it has since been condensed into a single part, running under three hours, to accommodate a broader audience.

The play continues to draw audiences with its compelling narrative and innovative stagecraft, maintaining the magical allure that has captivated fans worldwide. The addition of Felton to the cast is expected to further boost its popularity, attracting both longtime fans of the series and new theatergoers alike.

Implications for Broadway and Beyond

The inclusion of a film cast member in the stage production underscores the enduring appeal of the Harry Potter franchise. It highlights the seamless transition of beloved characters from screen to stage, offering audiences a new dimension of storytelling. Felton’s participation is likely to inspire other film actors to explore theatrical opportunities, enriching the Broadway landscape with fresh talent and perspectives.

As Felton prepares to step onto the Broadway stage, the anticipation among fans and theater enthusiasts is palpable. His performance is poised to bring a new depth to the character of Draco Malfoy, offering insights into his evolution from a schoolboy antagonist to a complex adult figure.

With Felton’s debut, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to continue its legacy as a groundbreaking theatrical production, bridging the gap between the magical world of Hogwarts and the vibrant energy of Broadway.
